Managed network with Proxar-owned equipment

Need a business network without buying and managing every device yourself? Proxar supplies and owns the equipment covered by this solution, alongside the management you agree with us.

For help with equipment your organisation already owns, see network management.

A network that fits the way you work

The right design starts with your people, locations and applications. A small office can have demanding wireless needs, and a single hosted application can make the connection between two sites particularly important.

We look at how the proposed equipment will connect to anything you are keeping. Internet circuits, building cabling and application support may remain with other suppliers. Everyone needs to know where those responsibilities meet, especially during an outage.

Compare the whole arrangement, not just the hardware

Buying a switch is only one part of running it. Configuration, licences, fault handling and future changes also need attention. A managed network brings the covered equipment and agreed operation together, rather than leaving you to assemble those parts separately.

The proposal should identify the equipment, management work and support coverage. It also needs to explain replacement, licence costs and what happens when the service ends. That gives you something meaningful to compare with buying and managing the network yourselves.

Changes need to consider the applications behind them

A firewall rule or routing adjustment can affect a service far from the device being changed. Before significant work, we establish the intended result, the checks needed and how to return to the previous arrangement if necessary.

When a fault involves a carrier or another supplier, the service needs a clear coordination route. Owning the network equipment does not give Proxar control of an internet provider’s repair timetable. Our role in investigation, supplier contact and customer updates is part of what we agree with you.

Leave room for the next office or change in demand

More wireless users, a new location or a different hosted application can change what the network needs to do. Reviewing those plans early gives you time to consider capacity and equipment changes rather than making a hurried purchase during a problem.

You should also be able to see which changes belong to normal administration and which are separately approved projects. A useful service agreement makes both the everyday work and those bigger decisions understandable.

Before you decide

Your questions, answered

Will our business own the network equipment?

No. Proxar owns the equipment supplied under this managed network arrangement. The agreement sets out what is provided for your use, the service around it and the treatment of equipment when the arrangement changes or ends. Keep that distinction in mind when comparing this with purchasing equipment outright.

Can you look after equipment we already own?

Yes, subject to the equipment and requirements being suitable for an agreed management service. That is a different arrangement from the Proxar-owned solution described here. We will review the existing devices, licences, access and support position before agreeing which responsibilities to take on.

Are internet connections and building cabling included?

They should not be assumed to be included simply because the network is managed. The proposal identifies the components and responsibilities covered. Circuits, cabling or landlord-controlled infrastructure may have separate owners, and the fault-handling process needs to explain how those suppliers are involved.

What happens when we add a site or end the agreement?

The service terms need to explain both. A new location may require additional design, equipment and installation work. At the end of the arrangement, the treatment of Proxar-owned equipment, access, licences and records should already be clear so your business can plan its next steps.
